The colossal, prehistoric gorilla King Kong has become a modern icon. The image of that proud, ancient beast clinging to the top of a New York skyscraper is a compeling metaphor for the confrontation between modern man and nature, coupled with a fantastical update of the Beauty and the Beast legend. Beneath the myth of Kong also lies a tender story: the ill-fated love of Kong for Ann Darrow, his captivity and commercial exploitation. Kong's helpless fury and tragic death are touching, disturbing images that remind us of the consequences of man's hybris.

The musical King Kong, based on the 1932 adventure novel by Delos W. Lovelace, re-creates the saga as the emotional journey of its three main protagonists, and how Kong changes the fates of each one of them.
